Hidden treasure…

As soon as the Lord awakened me this morning He spoke a word into my hearing that simply said, “Hidden Treasure!” How many of you remember cartoons and even TV shows where people would go searching for hidden treasures? Hidden Treasure is considered to be something  valuable (such as money, jewels, gold, or silver) that is hidden or kept in a safe place. It can be something that is not only be valuable, but also very special, or important…

As I thought about Hidden Treasure, the Lord brought to mind the psalmist, who wrote Psalm 119..

Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You…Psalm 119:11

When you read Psalm 119 in its entirety, it’s evident that this person had discovered the true riches of the kingdom.

  • This person knew the value of God’s word..
  • This person understood the importance of not only knowing God’s word, but living life through the word…
  • This person willfully, deliberately and diligently embraced God’s word..
  • This person valued God’s word….

Just take a look at some of what the psalmist shares:

Blessed are the undefiled in the way, Who walk in the law of  the LordBlessed are those who keep His testimonies, Who seek Him with the  whole heart! They also do no iniquityThey walk in His ways. You have commanded us To keep Your precepts diligently. Oh, that my ways were directed To keep Your statutes!”…Psalm 119:1-5

Beloved, this person had possessed something very special, Hidden Treasure, or true kingdom riches. What’s so awesome about this passage is the nugget they left behind for us.

What nugget? The psalmist teaches us what true wealth is, the word of God and the application thereof, but also show us what to do with it: Hide it or bury it in our heart so that we can live by it!

Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You!”

I remember watching the TV shows and seeing people who had the valuable treasures. Whenever they wanted to put them away for safe keeping, they would go to great lengths to hide them in a place where only they could find them. Sometimes they would draw a map, and then other times they wouldn’t because of fear that someone might get it. When they found that special place they would dig deep into the ground to bury it.

As I thought further about this message the Lord led me to Joshua 1 and Psalm 1 to teach us how to bury this Hidden Treasure into our hearts..

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success…Joshua 1:8

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LordAnd in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper…Psalm 1:1-3

  • How much time are you spending with God?
  • How much time are you spending in God’s word?

Today would be an awesome day to start make the most valuable investment any of us could ever make, by investing the time that God gives us, into studying and meditating in His word!
